Reel of Fortune

A catch of a lifetime!
Raya came early this year for me! At least 7 hours early.
Today, being a day before the Raya celebrations, im off school and back at home. Reuben and randall invited me to Bukit Cahaya at first, wanting to explore the whole area once again but this time picnicking somewhere there. But turns out the plans didnt really work out well and so we ended up going fishing!

Heading towards banting, there is a turn off on the left of the highway. Not really visible, so you've got to keep a real good look out. The place is a pay-to-fish pond. The usual scene with the hut on one side, the water churning thingy in the water, some nets, a few anglers situated around the pond. It's been quite a while since i last fished, so this was as exciting as before. Just so you know, I've never caught a single fish(decent ones la) ever since my first fish back in 2003?

So why the surprise today? Well duh?? because i caught one la!
Its called a 'Rohu' to native anglers.

Rohu (Labeo rohita) is a fish of the carp family Cyprinidae, found commonly in rivers and freshwater lakes in and around the South Asia and South-East Asia. In Hindi it is called Rohu.(Rawas is the Indian Salmon, which is quite different) It is called rui in Bengali, rou in Assamese and is popular in Thailand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Orissa, West Bengal, Assam, and the Konkan region of India. It is a non-oily/white fish.

The above is the average fish size i think. Im not a pro fisher OKAY! I caught one about 1-2kgs while randall and reuben managed to catch one each too! So for supper, we went to Foo Chuan to eat. Asked the cooks to whip up something so that we can enjoy! turned out okay, if not for the omnipresent bones in the fish, it would've been excellent.

So for the holidays, Im happy!

Fishy fishes fish,
Fished out fishy fishing fish!

cleaning fury

I hate it whenever my family does cleaning.

I hate the fact that everyone seems to disown their stuff whenever they dont want to clear it, but miraculously remembers it belongs to them when someone DOES clean up their stuff. Real shitty man i tell you.

Cleaned up my room yesterday. Was even much more difficult than tunneling through china or searching for broken pieces of dino pelvises. Workbooks, text books, revision books, magazines, comics, plastic bags use to contain purchased comics/magazines, tissue paper, toys(including spiderman, venom, my old broken scorpion, buzzlightyear and many more), letters, envelopes, lizard shit, sketch books, files, folios, even my brothers underwear! i totally lost my marbles!!
Seriously. I did loose my marbles. The old ones i bought back in primary school.

And as usual, most of the stuff belonged to my devilish irritating younger brother. When asked to do something he'll look at you as though you just threw horse poo at his face. And guess what the parents say?

Oooh.. "his just a little kid, only 12 year old la. He's not matured like you,(like that'll make me any happier. It's an insult to be called mature by them. But it's also an insult when they say you're NOT mature. So.. I dunno what's what. You get what i mean)So talk to him nicely. You're his older brother. Be nice to him ya!"

What are HIS things doing in MY room anyway?? And they can complain so much when the rooms all dirty and stuff, but when i finally want to clean, and they find out its HIS stuff, it's 'clean up his shit for him. You're his older brother. Be nice.
How 'nice'.

So kathy. You're on holiday. Just when im out of holi- days. Who came up with the word HOLIday in the first place? And what does HOLI mean? weird.

Just so for your info:
The word holiday has related but different meanings in English-speaking countries. A contraction of holy and day, holidays originally represented special religious days. This word has evolved in general usage to mean any special day of rest (as opposed to regular days of rest such as the weekend).

In the English-speaking world a holiday can mean a period spent away from home or business in travel or recreation (e.g. "I'm going on holiday to Malta next week"), the North American equivalent is "vacation". Many Canadians will use the terms vacation and holiday interchangeably when referring to a trip away from home or time off work. In Australia the term can refer to a vacation or gazetted public holiday, but not to a day of commemoration such as Mothers' Day or Halloween.

In all of the English-speaking world, a holiday can be a day set aside by a nation or culture (in some cases, multiple nations and cultures) typically for celebration but sometimes for some other kind of special culture-wide (or national) observance or activity. A holiday can also be a special day on which school and/or offices are closed, such as Labor Day.

When translated from/to other languages, the meanings of the word "holiday" may be conflated with these of "observance" and "celebration".

Holiday blues

Holidays without any real plan as to what to do or where to go really sucks.

Ever since i started my first 2 week holiday all i've been doing is slogging in front of the com training a fictional 2D character on MapleStory™ and sometimes when the mood strikes, a lil' bit of DotA™-ing for me. Now that the marginal utility gained from playing those games have almost run out, i'm at lost as to what to do with my free time.

Ah!
Watch movies! Borrowed some DvD's from ashley. Only watched a few of them so far.. The holidays seemed to have rained the life out of me! In college, i used to study so hard everyday and now that im free, i totally have no idea what to do! lost my bearings la tu..

Met up with Yh, Theeban, Venki and Sri yesterday. Only got to chat with yh and theebs though. Went for a drink at Asia cafe and a game of pool(it was their idea! not mine! i just tagged along and ummm... and umm... you know... played along?) after that. Its been a long time since i ever met up with them. Excluding the meeting with Hong, Ling, Farah, Marvin and Theebs the other day. Damn i miss my friends. Noone in college can make it up to your level.

Now that the holidays are almost over, i'll be back to college again. Happy buffalo.

2.10.07

Early this morning at 4a.m. was the first anniversary.

Its been a year ever since she was taken away from us. Time sips through the broken glass of life. One year has passed but it just seems like yesterday that my beloved aunt Irene passed on.

I remember clearly the day it happened.

The phone rang in the wee hours of the morning. It was close to 5. I knew because i was the one to pick the phone up. On the other end was jac. Asking for my dad in an other than calm voice. Half awake- half asleep i was expecting some foreign voice to be on the line, or probably some wrong number. Hearing her on the phone instantly woke me up. Walking out of the room heading to my parents room to wake my dad, he stepped out. I handed him the phone saying it was from jac. Already dreading the worst i waited for his reaction. Listening to the conversation confirmed my suspicions. She died that morning, the day after getting out from hospital.

She was ill previously. Having entered hospital due to internal bleeding problems, stomach ulcers, she still managed to pull a straight face. Unbeknowing to all of us, she suffered silently. The night before, we visited her. There she was on the bed happily chatting away with my mom and aunt. I was asked to go over to her house the next day to take care of her, cook porridge and look after her. As i was on holiday i obliged. Mana tau, she went off before anyone expected her to. We were all fooled by her tough exterior into believing that all was fine and well with her.

The one person i have known to be able to go through so many things in her life. Working as a nurse before, going through world war, loosing her husband, taking sole responsibility of looking after her bedridden mom, cleaning the house every single day of her since since i knew when. Mopping, sweeping, dusting, washing, cooking, taking care of the nephews and nieces when we were there. My family spent most of our time there. Especially me and my brothers. We used to go over to her place everyday before and after school.

I remember once. When we were still so young. Me and my bro, as boys, as usual, were naturally gifted. Gifted in a sense that we wreak havoc. We would make her so angry at times, she would grab a cane and start chasing and screaming at the top of her voice at us. It seemed so fun to be running around the house being chased by an old lady with a cane. Even now, sitting here typing this out, i still laugh at what happened.

But now, all this lovely memories of my childhood with her, seemed to die with her. Not seeing her makes me forget. Forget of the past i had. The past i had with the aunt that had so much love in her heart to give, the aunt that loved animals as much as i did, the aunt that, even though complained so much about the world and suffered so much, still had the heart to give more and more everyday.

To our beloved KOKO Irene;

He Only Takes The Best

God saw they were their happiest and
someone would not let that be.
So He put his arms around them and whispered
"Come with Me".

With tear filled eyes we watched them,
suffer and fade away. Although we
loved them deeply, We could not
make them stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
hard working hands put to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
